I believe that there are many elements of the art fair that were great and many elements that could have been better. There were many elements that ended up being great that we thought we would fail at. For example, we thought that we were going to have an extremely small amount of entries, but through spreading the word we ended up having approximately thirty or more entries. Thanks to connections at Parkside, we had 108 coloring contest entries. We also thought that we wouldn't have many voters, but most of the artists friends and family voted so we had over fifty voters. However, I feel that the voting element could have gone better. Many people were confused and didn't realize that there was more than one table for some age groups. This was poor organization on our part so I plan to do better when planning any other events. Our group was also pleasantly surprised that we did not have hardly any down time due to the turnout. Overall, I feel that the art fair went extremely well for it being our first self-planned event. I have had many people approach me and say that they enjoyed the experience. I would also like to give a special thanks to everyone who entered and attended!

As a part of this project, we are required to give elevator pitches in front of our class. An elevator pitch is a thirty second speech that is meant to intrigue and persuade the targeted audience. We began the speech by introducing ourselves and our event, an art fair. We then explained the fair and what we were trying to accomplish. The main goal of this project being, raise money for the fine arts boosters, which funds art communities in Bethalto. These communities include, music, choir, drama, etcetera. We also explained the overall effect on the community, the community being the town and students of Bethalto. The overall effect was spreading awareness and giving artists a space to freely show their talent. To finish our speech, we explained the where, when, and how to get involved. The when was February sixteenth, the where was the senior citizen center, and the how to get involved was spreading the word and coming to vote. Many of our classmates did exactly that which we are extremely thankful for. This was a great step because it helped us ensure that we would have enough entries. We are extremely thankful that we were able to hold a successful event.
Thanks to the help of our parents, our group is now focusing on finalizing the details of our project. Our group got together at Isabella's house last Sunday to work on completing our list of objectives. After meeting, I contacted the Bethalto principals. I received a response from the principal of Civic Memorial but I am still awaiting a response from the others. Our flyers are now complete and I have just shared our entry form with Isabella. We a planning on getting the word out as fast as possible seeing as the entry deadline is February sixth. We have already had many of our friends reach out to us looking to enter. Myself and a couple of my group members are planning on entering our own art. We have decided, though, that because we are hosting the event we are disqualifying ourselves from voting. The flyers are going to be posted around Bethalto businesses and schools and the entry forms are available for pick up in the Bethalto school offices. During our meeting, our group decided that instead of buying a bunch of art supplies we would reach out to small businesses for gift cards. We have already reached out to Dairy Queen and they have agreed to supply a prize. If you would like more information on our art fair please feel free to visit the home page or check out the flyer below.
We started off the project by coming up with ideas that would benefit the Bethalto community. Our ideas in the beginning were a photo contest or an activity for children with special needs. At first we liked these ideas but we didn't feel that we would be able to do them ourselves. We then came up with the idea to host an art fair. We all agreed on this idea because we felt that it was suitable for both the community and ourselves. The only problem was that it relies mostly on the community, but we knew the project would be worth it.
My role in the group has been to help Isabella with the planning. We discussed as a group where we would hold it before contacting the center and planning the other aspects. Izzy and I have been keeping a list of what we need to get done. Pretty much the only thing we have left is to plan advertising, voting, and prizes. We are meeting up today to finish planning the details. For our presentation we plan on interviewing one or more participants. I am doing my best to stay completely involved so that I can do my part to make this project successful. My new years resolution is to dive deeper and work harder so the art fair is successful. Hi! This week we worked out our date for the art fair. The fair is going to be held in the morning of February 16th. One of our group members, Isabella, went up to Village hall and told them about our project. She then explained that the event we were holding would be a non-profit art fair and requested if they would allow us to hold it there. They were very kind and told us that because our project was for school and benefited the community. Special thanks to Sue E. Lawrence, village clerk. We've started working on designs for posters. The posters will include information such as, our email, website, time, date, and location. We are going to post these around the school, on a board at the library, boards at Schnucks, and similar places. We are also planning on getting in contact with the Fine Arts Booster Club and getting their permission to donate our profit to them. This booster club focuses on drama club, art club, choir, band, and all other arts. As a group, we believe that because the arts don't receive a lot of the schools budget, we could donate the money to them and the booster club.
Hello again! This past week we finished our website and continued to plot our ideas. This coming week we hope to finalize a location for the art fair. We had a few ideas on where to hold it but we are trying to decide on the best and most convenient one. A few of our major ideas for places are Culp Lane Park, the Boys and Girls club, the Bethalto Library, and/or the Bethalto Senior center. Some other things we have been discussing are snacks, finger painting, painting stations, face painting, voting, prizes, and entertainment. As a group we all have an assigned station which we have discussed. Isabella is in charge of supplying the prizes, Brooke is in charge of supplying paint for the painting stations, Caroline is in charge of voting, and I am in charge of supplying the snacks. We have talked as a group and decided that I am going to purchase the snacks from a convenient store instead of doing homemade snacks. Brooke is going to bring paints from home and help run the stations. For voting, we are going to have Caroline supply tickets for the participants and viewers to vote for their favorite artwork. Finally, for prizes we are going to supply art supplies for first place and ribbons or trophies for second and third place.
Hello! My name is Tanna and I am a student at Civic Memorial High school. I am a part of something called a 20Time project for school. 20Time is a project that students use to influence their community, my group and I decided that we are going to host an art fair. I have grown up with an interest in many art forms. The main art forms that peak my interest are acting, writing novels and short stories, and drawing. I am also very interested in watching Broadway productions and musicals. My group mates and I decided on an art fair because it is one thing we are all interested in. We knew this ahead of time though, seeing as we have all been friends for a while. They are all amazing artists and they, along with many other artists, do not get the chance to show their work. We believe that this is an issue for everyone in our community, which is why I am giddy at the idea of hosting an art fair. We have only just begun planning the details but we have accomplished choosing a central task. We have also created this website and we will each post a blog explaining the progress we've made each week. We are hoping that as we post more information we see the interest and support that we are hoping to see. See you next week!
